As a teacher we have been practicing the Language of Virtue
with our students. It can be a bit challenging at times to avoid using the
words “Don’t” and “No”, but this Virtues concept is teaching both the students
and the teachers to communicate in a more positive manner.
It is practicing using effective words like ‘Kindness’,
‘Respect’, ‘Responsibility’ and ‘Cooperation’ to guild students to develop a
more holistic personality.
It is helping them understand and practice the language and
actions of Virtues, and becoming so comfortable with it, that it becomes second
nature… automatic.
Here are some exercises that I had the students practice
learning the Virtue words:
Love your friend
To give them joy you play fair.
To make them smile you share.
To hear them laugh you tell a joke.
To see them with glee give them a poke.
This is how you treat your friend.
And they will stay with you to the end.
(Being the computer
teacher, the Junior students did this on Microsoft Word.)
The Senior students created Word Search puzzles using Virtues words in Microsoft Excel.

The Senior students also created a page on Comic Life on how they CAN or DO practice Virtues at school or at home.
These were just a few ideas of how I tried implementing the usage of Virtues words within the classroom and in the exercises we were doing. It was effective and enjoyable, but you must realize it is a work in progress. As much as they are learning so am I.
The only thing I continue to do is ... 'practice, practice, practice'.
This is cool...love the crossword. Great idea. :)
